GRAN TURISMO is like wine !! Gran Turismo 2 is a game like a fine wine, it gets better with time and in this instance nothing could be more right. Developed by Polyphony Digital Inc. this 2 disc game (one the Arcade mode and the other Gran Turismo mode) takes the player and playstation to the limit. The first choice you will have to make is to, which car shall you buy with your 10,000 credits? The answer to that is a cheapy, used banger which looks about ready for the scrap heap, nevertheless next task is to get yourself a license and these separate licences consist of 10 mini tests which you can obtain gold silver or the bronze qualification for. Once you have completed all 60 tests you can win some extra cash by racing in the wider range of races, which the licences just won allow you to do. The more races won the more cash is made and in turn the better the cars you can buy, and there are only over 600 cars altogether from 33 manufacturers from all around the world (sarcasm intended). The graphics don't deteriorate while you drive and have good effects too, so the 28 treacherous courses including the deadly Laguna Seca don't look plain. And if your not a road racing person why not rally, it's really up to you because there are races for sports cars, turbocharged cars, NA tuned cars, wagons, the 4 types of cars in the game which are FR, FF, MR and 4 WD plus many many more. You can dive competitively 1 or 2 player and on endurance races you can inflict damage aswell as receiving it. As you can tell Gran Turismo 2 is not a small game and it will take some time to complete as owning every car is a necessity to achieve 100% and full game completion, Top class game. |

GRAN TURISMO is awesome Gran Turismo 2 is, like so many overrated games, a game that gets far more praise than it actually deserves. If it had been made into a run-of-the-mill arcade racing game, GT2 could've been fantastic. But, GT2 is an over-complicated driving simulation that tries far too hard to be realistic. There are literally hundreds of cars to buy (around 600 to be precise). This is far too many if players actually want to use every car before they die of boredom. It's also very unlikely that you'll even be able to actually buy a car before your first month of owning the game, because getting a drivers' licence is one of the most infuriatingly difficult and downright monotonous punishments that PSOne owners are ever likely to subject themselves to (excluding Simpsons Wrestling, of course!). And if you finally do manage to get a licence without chucking your console out the window or deciding that using the GT2 discs as frisbees would be more fun, GT2 is simply too big and too long a game to hold non-driving enthusiats' attention for more than half and hour. GT2, despite the hype surrounding it, is simply too big and too realistic for its' own good. Simple bog-standard arcade racing games like Ridge Racer are a better choice for most gamers. Or, the Grand Theft Auto series is also excellent for a few laughs and plenty of driving action. GT2 on the other hand is simply dull. Avoid. |
